As an educational consultant, keynote speaker, instructional coach, Dr. Charisse Smith has worked across multiple platforms in public and private school settings as well as within the nonprofit and business sectors. Beginning her career as a mental health professional and elementary school teacher, Dr. Smith’s portfolio includes board trustee for the New Jersey Foundation for Aging, committee member of the George School Inclusion and Oversight Committee, President of ETE –Excellence Through Education, and most recently, the 1st Black Board Trustee for Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey positive experiences as a student have led me to the teaching vocation. My passion for service and the love of learning guides my continued path to leadership in education. I have spent my entire career in the service of others. Assisting the underserved and creating opportunities for others to serve continues to be a fulfilling benefit thus far. My unconventional beginnings as an educator provided me with an extensive toolkit of successful strategies and skills that enable me to create lasting diverse partnerships that benefit children and the adults who work with them. I received my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and went on to receive my P.h.D degree in Education - Professional Studies. I have been working as a teacher leader and educator of adults and children for the past 30 years.
As a results-oriented educational leader, I have over 15 years of experience developing innovative programs that serve a variety of diverse school communities and stakeholders. I have a proven ability to seen and enhance partnerships with collaborative agencies to build capacity, build teams, and improve programming using data and research. As a critical theorist, visionary motivator, and problem-solver I am known for my ability to win community support. I provide a variety of professional development and planning opportunities to schools and businesses in the area of curriculum mapping, data analysis, program design, program engagement, teacher mentoring, and coaching.
With my ability to build bridges among organizations and the owner of Sankofa Educational Consulting, I build execute parental programs for schools and support progressive movements for diversity and inclusion within private schools. Dr. Smith's keynotes have addressed supporting academic excellence among Black youth and the financial health of the Black Community. Her upcoming book, Parker Pete chronicles the life of a young immigrant mouse transitioning into the wonderful world of kindergarten. When I'm not working with students of all ages, I enjoy urban gardening, aqua-aerobics, playing tennis, and writing children's books. My favorite weekend activity is enjoying the outdoors with my spouse and two kids.
